Packing Jewelry for a Long-Distance Move

Packing Jewelry for a Long-Distance Move

Transporting your jewelry when moving can be an aggravating aspect of travel. Avoid the stress of reassembling, losing, or damaging jewelry; follow these tips and tricks to learn how you can properly pack your necklaces, bracelets, watches, and earrings for a tangle-free move.

Straws

Plastic straws are a simple method for preventing your chained jewelry from tangling with other pieces in your collection. Just slip one side of your chain through a straw and clasp at the other end. This will keep your chains straight and protected throughout the move.

Paper Towel or Toilet Paper Rolls

Thicker necklaces, bracelets, and watches can be packed with cardboard rolls from paper towels or toilet paper. Simply follow the technique you would use for straws, or clasp your bracelets around the circumference of the tube.

Egg Cartons

When packing rings and earrings, use an old egg carton. The divots in these cartons are perfect for organizing your smaller jewelry pieces. Plus, the material is pliable enough to be pierced and fastened with your earrings so you can avoid losing individual backs.

Tissue and Wrapping Paper

After prepping your chains and bracelets, use wrapping paper to group and secure your pieces. The paper acts as a buffer for delicate jewels and offers more encompassing protection.

Once all of your jewelry is carefully organized, store your compacted pieces in a jewelry box or in Ziploc bags. This will not only offer further protection for your pieces but also organize your collection to avoid misplacements.
